Collection A / G
LUM-TEC’s Bulls are a proverbial brick houses, except steel and not a house. The case is thick, heavy and dense. There are no hollow sounds from air-filled voids. Machining is precise. Brushed finishing is smooth and consistent. Assembly is flawless; there’s not even play in the spring bars. Obvious bolts and screws are reminiscent of aircraft instrumentation before the age of “Glass Cockpits.” It’s a bold presentation, especially in bright, brushed steel, which we selected to provide an extra degree of visual distinction from run-of-the-mill blactical aviators.
LUM-TEC’s Bulls have a rare chassis design – square flat case with round bezel.
Well, it’s not exactly square; the top and bottom edges of its shoulders bow inward so that the round profile of the movement capsule is evident. It’s not exactly flat either; the case’s shoulders and lugs bend downward, forming a curve across the wrist, making it wear a bit smaller than the linear measurements would imply.
The crystal is sapphire, slightly convex and treated to reduce reflection. Clarity is perfect with no optical distortion at its perimeter. In my lifestyle, comprised of extreme desk-sitting punctuated with first response action and hard weekends on my horse farm.
Readability is terrific. The Bull´s main dial is flat black with beige painted numerals, or rather numeral; only the 12 is complete. Chronographs must unapologetically favor the subdials – which are, more or less, the entire point of chronographs in the first place. Hour and minute hands are broad swords, black near the center, the remainder colored to suit the submodel’s graphic concept. A small square date window is cut between 4 and 5 – it’s fine, though the minute hand is fat enough to block the date twenty-four times every day.
Our brand’s eponymous lume – branded as “MVD Technology” – can be incredibly bright. With a fresh charge, it’s visible even in normal room light, overpowering the dial’s paint color. It’s even bright enough to read by for a few minutes (if you still read off paper – so provincial). After eight hours overnight, it remains usefully bright. MVD is among the best we have ever used in the dark, possibly better than Rolex and Seiko. No, it is not comparable to tritium for consistency and longevity.
